Baoxiang Flower Pattern
The Baoxiang flower, also known as the Treasure Immortal Flower or Precious Lotus, is a traditional Chinese auspicious motif and a common ornament in Buddhist art. “Baoxiang” refers to the solemn image of the Buddha, and the Baoxiang flower embodies a perfect and sacred blossom.

Emerging during the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties, it spread into ceramics, architecture, and decorative arts. By the Sui and Tang dynasties, the motif grew more voluminous, inspired by natural flowers with multi-layered petals, radiating luxurious beauty. Later, it became distinctive in brocade, bronze mirrors, and porcelain.

The Baoxiang flower is not a real bloom but an idealized creation, blending features of lotus, peony, and chrysanthemum. With its rigorous structure and layered petals, it symbolizes Buddhist solemnity, imperial magnificence, and humanity’s pursuit of perfection, wealth, and completeness.
